Day 135 - Read 1 Samuel 12-13

Sep 5, 2024

Samuel challenged Israel to obey God during his final address to them. He reminded them of their history and God’s work among them. Samuel told Israel they had rebelled against God by demanding an earthly king. Israel confessed their sin and asked Samuel to pray on their behalf. Samuel told Israel that God would not forsake them, but they must fear the Lord and serve Him faithfully or be swept away. Saul led Israel against the Philistines. Saul retreated and waited for Samuel to arrive. When Samuel did not arrive in the time appointed, Saul chose to offer a burnt offering without Samuel which was against God’s command. Samuel warned Saul that his kingdom would not last because of his sin, but God would seek a man after His own heart.
