Student PARENT RESOURCES

In this lesson, students interacted with John 15:1-11, when Jesus uses the image of the vine and branches to make it clear that we are not meant to produce spiritual fruit on our own. Students often feel the pressure to “be better” or “do more,” but this passage reminds us that fruitfulness isn’t about effort; it’s about abiding in Jesus. When we are rooted in Jesus, His life flows through us. As a testimony, we bear fruit, as branches that are connected to the Vine.

SCRIPTURE FOCUS:  John 15:1-11; Galatians 5:22-24

TALK ABOUT IT:

• How have you encountered God’s pruning in your life?
• What does it look like to abide in Jesus?
• How does the imagery of Jesus as the vine help your understanding of Him?

We were powerless, broken, and had nothing to offer, yet God reached for us anyway. In this session, students saw that God’s love was intentional, planned long before they were born, and demonstrated fully on the Cross. Students were challenged to stop trying to earn God’s love and to see that God reached out to us first.

• Is it ever tempting to try to earn God’s love? Why? 
• What would you say to a friend who feels like God’s love is something they could never receive because of past mistakes?
