Day 59 - Read Acts 12-13

Herod killed James, the brother of John, and arrested Peter intending to present him to the people. An angel released Peter from his chains and the jail was opened for him to escape. Herod thought of himself as a god and was punished with a painful death. The Holy Spirit called Paul (Saul) and Barnabas to preach the gospel. They performed miracles and people believed, including a proconsul (governor). Paul preached at a synagogue, telling the history of God’s people and preaching Jesus as the Messiah. When they returned the following Sabbath to preach, the Jews became jealous and incited the crowds against them. Paul condemned their acts and preached salvation to the gentiles.
