Day 217 - Read Nehemiah 7

The wall and the gates were complete. Gatekeepers were in place for protection of the city and of the house of the Lord. Singers and Levites were in place to worship and to conduct the responsibilities of the servants in the house of the Lord. The city was fortified, but houses had not yet been built in the city walls, so gatekeepers were assigned the responsibility of opening and closing the gates of the city each day. The list of genealogies of the people who came out of exile to Jerusalem were named. Many of them gave to the work of rebuilding the house of the Lord, and to the building of the wall around Jerusalem.
