Day 20 - Reading Genesis 32-33

May 13, 2024

Jacob was afraid Esau would seek to harm him. He sent messengers to greet Esau and to tell him Jacob had prospered. He wanted peace with Esau. The messengers told Jacob that Esau was coming with 400 men. Jacob split his camps and prepared to offer gifts to his brother. Jacob sent all he owned across a stream and was left alone. Jacob wrestled with a “man” until the break of day. Jacob later said he had seen God face to face. He touched Jacob’s hip socket, and it was put out of joint. He told Jacob his name would now be Israel. He looked up and saw Esau coming his way. He showed honor to Esau, still believed he was going to harm him. Esau did not harm Jacob but embraced him and welcomed him to journey to his land.
