Sunday Small Groups (August 16)

In John 1, students discovered that Jesus existed from the beginning, created all things, and came as the light of the world. We discussed how the whole Bible points to the fact that Jesus came to earth as the Son of God to provide light about God’s plan for salvation. Through Jesus, God offers eternal life to those who will believe in Him.

SCRIPTURE FOCUS:  John 1:1-5, 14 | John 5:31-37 | John 8:12

TALK ABOUT IT:
  • Who do you believe Jesus is?
  • What does it mean to call Jesus the Messiah?
  • Does it change your reading of the Old Testament when you consider that Jesus is the fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets? Why or why not?

Wednesday Midweek (August 19)

Students explored how culture encourages us to build our own image, while Jesus calls us to a different way of living. Looking at Jesus' teaching in Mark 8 and the humility of John the Baptist, students were challenged to build their identity on Christ rather than on what others think about them.

SCRIPTURE FOCUS:  Mark 8:34-38 | John 3:25-30

TALK ABOUT IT:
  • What image in your life do you feel the most pressure to protect? Why?
  • What would it look like for Jesus to "increase" and for you to "decrease"?
