Josiah began his reign in Judah when he was eight years old and reigned for thirty-one years. He was obedient to God. He ordered the repair of the temple. The book of the law was found and read to the king. He tore his clothes, realizing his fathers broke the laws of God. He inquired of God and the prophets told him he would die before God punished Judah. Josiah gathered the people of Judah and read the law. He demolished the altars and monuments to other gods. Josiah was killed by Pharaoh Neco, king of Egypt, and Jehoahaz, son of Josiah became king of Judah. He reigned for three months, then Pharaoh Neco put him in bonds and named Eliakim, the son of Josiah king of Judah, then changed Eliakim’s name to Jehoiakim.
