Day 243 - Read Psalm 1-5

Dec 22, 2024

The book of Psalm is a collection of hymns, or songs of praise to God. David begins this book by contrasting the way of the righteous and the wicked. He characterizes the results of each. Chapter two describes the Messiah, the Son of God. This song is prophesy, looking forward to the reign of the Son of God. Chapter three is a call to God for David’s rescue from his son Absalom who turned the people against David. We are introduced to the term Selah in chapter three, a musical term meaning “pause”, or “accentuation”. Chapter four is a Psalm recognizing God’s response to those who are godly. Chapter five is a plea from David to God seeking His guidance in the path of righteousness, and God’s favor and protection.
