When you hear the word “worship,” what do you think of? Like most people, you probably think of singing. You’re not wrong, but there is so much more to worship than singing for God. Worship also includes serving others, prayer, and reading His Word. It looks like spending time quietly in awe of the amazing, powerful, and loving God He is. Sometimes, when we think about how magnificent God is, we can’t help but bow before Him.

As soon as the wise men saw Jesus, they fell down in worship of Him. Bowing before the Lord showed Him respect and honor. It communicated an adoration for Him. As a sign of the wise men recognizing Jesus as the King, they also brought Him special gifts. They gave Him gold, a precious metal that represented Jesus’ kingship. They gave Him frankincense, an expensive perfume that acknowledged Him as God. Finally, they gave Jesus myrrh, another expensive perfume used to put on bodies to prepare them for burial. Myrrh represented Jesus’ death to take away the sins of the world. Just like the wise men honored Jesus because of who He was, we should spend time worshipping the King of Kings, the Messiah, and the Savior of the world, too.

Why did the wise men fall down in worship when they saw Jesus?

What are some ways you can worship the Lord?

Put on your favorite worship music and spend some time in awe of Jesus. You might want to kneel or lay face down on the ground like the wise men did to honor and show your love for Him. You can pray out loud or silently, sing along with the music or listen to it, or simply tell Jesus how you feel about Him quietly in your heart. It is good for us to give the Lord all the glory and love He deserves.
