Have you ever been called on at school to answer one of your teacher’s questions? It can be an uncomfortable feeling. Maybe your hands get sweaty, your face turns red, and your stomach flip flops all over the place if you don’t know the answer. What about times when you were certain you had the right answer? You probably gave the correct response without the sweaty hands, red face, or butterflies in your stomach. You were confident.

Wise men in the Bible were people who had a lot of answers to hard questions. They studied all kinds of subjects like history, astronomy, and law. In fact, they were so smart that important people like kings would call on them to help with their questions and problems. The wise men in the Christmas story were likely a lot like others in the Bible. We don’t know exactly how they gathered information about the God of the Israelites or even if they followed Him, but the coolest thing is that somehow, they were confident about the message of the star. They knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that the star belonged to the King of the Jews, and their desire was to find Him and worship Him.

Why do you think the wise men were searching for Jesus?

How do you think the wise men knew Jesus was the King of the Jews?

If you have a nativity set with the baby Jesus in it, you can use that figure for this game. If not, you can use a small doll or paper drawing of a baby. Like the wise men traveled to find Jesus, you’re going to try to find Him in your own home. Take turns hiding baby Jesus somewhere in your house. Have everyone else search for it. The person who hid the figure can give hints along the way, kind of like the star helped the wise men. Once someone finds it, they become the hider, and the rest of the family tries to find baby Jesus.
